Abstract:Since the power industry reform in 2002, most of coal-fired power plants in China have been suffering from the dual pressure of so-called “the market coal” and “the planed electricity”. Wenzhou Power Plant is also not an exception, as its performance has been fluctuating with the price of coal in recent years. The general manager of Wenzhou Power Plant attaches great importance to this problem, and urges Weng, chief manager of strategic planning department, to organize relevant personnel to think over this trouble seriously and put forward a five-year strategic planning for the company’s future business development as soon as possible. However, what exactly are opportunities and threats in the external environment? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the company? How to re-design and select a business portfolio system for the company’s next five years? Manager Weng still does not have a clear idea.
